In recognition of National Recovery Month, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD) and its Alabama member affiliate, Addiction Prevention Coalition, will present a free virtual educational event, “Hiding in Plain Sight: The Rise of Gas Station Drugs,” on September 30, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST.
The program will feature Dr. Aaron Weiner, PhD, ABPP, President of Prime For Life, who will discuss the growing availability of everyday-looking products sold at gas stations and convenience stores that may contain unregulated or poorly understood psychoactive substances.
The presentation will explore products such as kratom and cannabis-derived substances, emerging trends surrounding their availability and use, potential risks, and signs that may indicate misuse. The session is designed to help professionals and community members become better informed about substances that can often be easily accessible yet difficult to recognize.
“As we recognize National Recovery Month this September, education and awareness remain important parts of prevention, treatment and recovery,” said Denise L. Kolivoski, MBA, Executive Director of NCADD. “We encourage individuals, professionals and community organizations to attend—and to share this free learning opportunity with colleagues and others in their networks.”
Continuing education credits are available, and there is no cost to participate.
